We live in a world obsessed with fat, and yet fat is essential to health and hormones. Your fat is actually an organ although it is everywhere all over your body, and is just as important as your stomach, liver, and brain.
I came upon this understanding after reading the Secret Life of Fat by Sylvia Tara PhD who has made it her life’s work to study fat metabolism.
My background is in biology also, and was delighted to read this book and understand how hormones were affecting my body, making it too fat, too thin, and sometimes really lumpy!
I’ve experimented with a lot of diets and finally found the one for me, and it includes a lot of fresh food.
Older and wiser
I am 70 now, and I am happy to be here. My path through life turned out a little bit different than what I had planned: which was to become a doctor. Instead of becoming a doctor, I got a degree in naturopathy, couldn’t make a living so I became a dancer, massage therapist, and yoga teacher.
It was a good decision based on my body because although I was physically strong, my body kept breaking down when I pushed it too hard to get the grades, be a hard worker, carry an overload, work physically demanding jobs to help pay my way through college. Although these occupations (yoga and massage therapist) demand a lot of physical and mental fitness, I felt healthier and more at peace with myself when I started to manage my own health with yoga and good food.
